Beyond This BookBeyond This Book |
Like us, many other people love to write about Disneyland and Southern California. And, happily, we all love to read about it! We know many fascinating topics fall outside the scope of this guidebook, but we can at least guide you to the better books and web sites. Enjoy! |
OUR FAVORITE DISNEYLAND BOOKS Secrets of Disneyland: Weird and Wonderful Facts about the Happiest Place on Earth by Dinah Williams ($8.95; ISBN: 978-1454908135; Sterling Children's Books) is a treasure trove of nearly hidden details at Disneyland. The book is filled with fascinating trivia, locations of Hidden Mickeys, historical lore, and delightful sketches of Disney imagineers, legends, and other heroes. This is essentially a guided tour in a neat little book. It’s kid friendly, too! The Hidden Mickeys of Disneyland by Bill Sconlon ($11.99; 978-1484712764; Disney Editions) is a colorful book filled with information and photographs of Hidden Mickeys all around Disneyland. If you're curious about these little gems, and want to know how to find them, this is the book for you. 101 Things You Never Knew About Disneyland by Kevin Yee and Jason Schultz ($14.95; 0-9728398-1-X; Zauberreich Press) is a collection of lesser known stories and tributes, many of which were learned directly from Disney Imagineers. Among the 101 gems in this book, you’ll learn about the special palm tree in Adventureland, a pumpkin that honors a Disneyland official, and a special appearance by Eeyore at Indiana Jones. Mouse Tales: A Behind-the-Ears Look at Disneyland ($15.95; 0-9640605- 6-6; Bonaventure Press) and More Mouse Tales: A Closer Peek Backstage at Disneyland ($15.95; 978-0964060562; Bonaventure Press). Author David Koenig presents a less squeaky-clean version of Disneyland in these semiexposés. Even so, you’re more likely to find dust bunnies than real dirt in this book—the author is still a Disney admirer. This is fascinating reading if you’re interested in peeking behind the scenes. Unofficial Guide to Disneyland by Bob Sehlinger ($17.99; 978-1628090581; Unofficial Guides) is a great source for advice on touring Disneyland. It offers more than ten touring plans, plus really solid information on reducing wait times in Disneyland. It’s an excellent companion to PassPorter. The Disneyland Railroad: A Complete History in Words and Pictures by Steve DeGaetano ($24.95; 978-1941500569; Steam Passages) is devoted to the Disneyland railroad. If you love railroads, you’ll adore this book filled with elaborate detail, in-depth histories, and more than 100 color photographs. |
