Pirate's Lair on Tom Sawyer Island [B-4]      A-OK!

Tom Sawyer Island
Explore the many wonders
of Tom Sawyer Island.
by Crimeguy

Board a free-floating raft in New Orleans Square to explore the last 2 1 /2 “undeveloped” acres of Frontierland. In 2007, a pirate ship “came aground” on the island, shipwrecking and flinging its treasure and crew all over, and hence it is now known as Pirate’s Lair. Hang out at Lafitte’s Tavern, where you might learn to use a cutlass or catch the pirate band, appropriately named the Bootstrappers. Your little pirates will love to climb to the top of Tom & Huck’s Treehouse, get lost in the narrow caves of Dead Man’s Grotto, and scamper across the suspension and pontoon bridges. Newer attractions include a sunken ship laden with underwater loot and a buried treasure chest that you can actually hoist up, a bone cage modeled after the one seen in the “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest” movie, and a shipwreck with ominous signs that Davy Jones has visited! This is a great place for old and young pirates alike to take a mid-afternoon break. Some, but not all, of the island is wheelchair accessible. Two restrooms are available, at the north and south of the island. The raft, restrooms, and many pathways are wheelchair accessible.
