Like Teppan Edo, this restaurant was renovated from a previous incarnation (the former Tempura Kiku and Matsu No Ma eateries) into a larger, more trendy eatery. Tokyo Dining showcases the traditional cuisine of Japan, with an emphasis on sushi. Appetizer choices include edamame ($6.50), seafood ramen ($9.00), and tempura ($9.25). Entrees range from tempura ($21–$30), deep-fried cutlets ($30), grilled meats ($21–$34). Sadly, the bentos are gone. Kids meals come in a shinkansen (bullet train) shaped bowl and include your choice of tempura, California roll, teriyaki burger, or Kurobuta sausage dog ($13). Desserts such as green tea mousse cake ($6.50) are excellent. The sushi bar has a large “mood screen” showing iconic Japanese images—very relaxing on a busy theme park day. The main dining room offers lovely views of the World Showcase Promenade. During IllumiNations, the lights are dimmed and the music is broadcast over the eatery’s speakers.

In a pizza mood? This eatery in Italy offers wood-fired pizzas and other Southern Italian favorites. With a design inspired by Naples 45 Ristorante e Pizzeria in NYC, this casual restaurant seats 300 and features three wood-burning ovens named after active volcanos in Italy: Etna, Vesuvius, and Stromboli. Menu items include a variety of appetizers and salads, including gamberetti fagioli ($9) and calamari ($14). Pizzas are made with imported flour and tomatoes, and water closely resembling that found in Naples—they are available in three sizes (individuals for $18–$25, large 8-slices for $29–$36, 1/2 meter Mezzo Metro 12 slices for $41–$48) and nine varieties. Lasagna ($22) and spaghetti ($21) are also offered, as well as piatti alla parmigiana with eggplant ($22), chicken ($26), and veal ($30). Desserts range from tiramisu ($9) to gelati ($9) to zeppole di ricotta ($10).

Of the Japan pavilion’s three eateries, we visit here most often for tasty, filling, and economical fare. This classic Japanese quick-meal spot serves skewers of grilled teriyaki chicken, salmon, or beef as a platter or in a combo with shrimp tempura ($10–$14), satisfying chicken curry over rice ($13), sushi ($9–$12) and big, filling bowls of udon noodle soup ($11–$12). Wash it down with hot sake or cold Kirin beer. Dine at tables indoors or out, and take a few minutes to stroll through the nearby bonsai display. Kids’ meal is $8–$9. Formerly Yakitori House.

Crowds queue up and stroll away with Harry Ramsden’s legendary Fish & Chips ($10.99), and for good reason—it’s the real thing! (Dave can’t resist it!) For a sweet, try the Victoria Sponge Cake ($4.29). Wash it down with a Bass ale or Harp lager draft ($8.75). Soft drinks also available. Seating at patio tables is often available to the right, or visit the United Kingdom gardens to eat.
