They say “heck” is a place where the cooks are English, but the food in this boisterous, crowded pub is quite nice. It’s so cozy inside you’d swear you just walked in out of a London fog. Traditional specialties include fish & chips ($21), Shepherd’s pie ($20), grilled steak with Yorkshire pudding ($29) and veggie cottage pie ($18). Start your meal (or simply snack) on a cheese plate ($13). Pub-style entertainers put in a regular appearance. A quieter meal with a view of IllumiNations may be had on the terrace—request a 7:30 pm (or earlier) reservation, check in early, request an outside table (no guarantee you’ll get one, but ask anyway), and have a leisurely dinner. Don’t forget a pint of ale, porter, or stout, a side of bubble and squeak ($6). And how about the sticky toffee pudding for dessert ($8)? Kids meals $11–$12. |

Where but Disney can you dine at noon in a romantic, twilit Mexican plaza, while a cool evening breeze caresses your skin, a volcano steams ominously on the horizon and boats float by on the Gran Fiesta Tour (see page 162)? Despite the fine, authentic Mexican food, it’s the atmosphere that makes San Angel Inn (pronounced “San Anhel”) a favorite. For appetizers, we suggest tostados ($10.50) or sopa Azteca (tortilla soup, $7.50). For your entree, try their wonderful Pollo a las Rajas (chicken with red peppers and onion cream sauce—$19.95) and Enchiladas Verdes con Pollo (pulled chicken tortillas—$18.95). Check the Chef’s Selections for tempting items that go beyond simple “Mex.” A separate vegetarian menu offers two choices ($13-$18). The kids can choose from quesadillas, tacos, grilled chicken, or grilled tilapia ($8.50–$9.50). La Cava del Tequila lounge is adjacent to this eatery, and offers more than 200 types of authentic tequilas ranging in price from $8.75 to upwards of $50. You can also get margaritas, tapas, and other appetizers in this 30-seat lounge. |

Hearty, German fare for light eaters. Sommerfest serves bratwurst ($9.49), frankfurters (with sauerkraut, of course—$9.29), nudel gratin ($4.29), Black Forest cake ($4.79), and apple strudel ($4.79). Wash it down with German wine ($11), Jägermeister shot ($8.50), or German beer ($8.50–$9.00). Covered seating is outdoors, within earshot of the oompah bands. |

This waterfront eatery features tapas, small plates, olive oils, and wines from the Mediterranean. Menu items include (Alexander’s favorite) fried calamari ($13), Harissa chicken roll ($9), hummus fries ($9), frield calamari ($13), Moroccan lamb sausage ($10), fish croquettes ($11), rice stuffed grape leaves ($9). Entrees include mix grill skewers ($30), yellowfin tuna ($29), Coriander-crusted lamb ($33), roasted chicken ($27), and Mediterranean vegetable platter ($23). Desserts include assorted baklava ($8), chocolate pyramid ($9), and orange blossom water custard ($8). There’s also an extensive drink menu—Jennifer enjoyed the red Spice Road Signature Sangria ($11.99), but didn’t care for the white version. The restaurant has 120 outdoor terrace seats (some with a good view of IllumiNations) and 60 indoor seats. |
