SHOPPING AT DISNEY'S ANIMAL KINGDOM

The best shopping at Disney’s Animal Kingdom can be found in two places: Discovery Island around the Tree of Life and Africa’s Village of Harambe. Of the two, Harambe offers more in the way of handcrafted and imported goods, while Discovery Island offers themed Disney merchandise. Here are our favorite shops:

NOTES FOR DISNEY'S ANIMAL KINGDOM

Not all animals can be seen all the time. On the plus side, you’ll often see new ones each time, making subsequent visits unique.

Beverages sold in Disney’s Animal Kingdom generally do not come with lids, for the animals’ safety.

It always seems hotter at Disney’s Animal Kingdom than at any other park. Be prepared with hats, sunglasses, sunscreen, and ways to keep yourself cool, like plenty of cold water and/or a personal misting fan ($16). Take advantage of the mist-spraying fans throughout the park when you need relief. Take frequent breaks in air-conditioned spots—try the eateries, shops, or attractions.

Disney announced in 2011 that they would bring the fantasy world of AVATAR to Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Construction on Pandora—The World of Avatar began in 2014 and opens May 27, 2017. For more details, see page 191 and watch our this page and our newsletter!
