Disney’s Animal Kingdom is a paradise, where delightful and often subtle details can work their magic if you take the time to notice. This is not a do-it-all-in-a-day-or-die park. Slow down, revel in the beauty, wonder at the animals, and enjoy yourselves! Trails lead off in all directions—don’t be afraid to explore them. A bridge and path connects DinoLand and Asia (see map on page 186). This park is one big photo op! Bring plenty of memory cards and batteries, and even binoculars for viewing animals. Dining options here include the new Tiffins restaurant, the expanded Harambe Marketplace in Africa, full-service and counter-service restaurant (Yak & Yeti) in Asia, and Tusker House buffet with a character breakfast and lunch. See the listings beginning on page 245. The outdoor, sheltered seating by Flame Tree Barbecue is a wonderful spot, whether you want to dine or simply rest. Tables and dining pavilions are set amidst lush tropical gardens. “Caw caw, roar roar!” Wilderness Explorers encourages guests to discover the natural surroundings and earn more than 30 sticker badges! With the help of the free Wilderness Explorers Handbook, you’ll encounter various challenges and activities stationed around the park. Learn how to track animals, how animals communicate, and the benefits of recyling. The free, self-guided program is inspired by the Disney-Pixar movie “UP” and while it’s aimed at kids ages 7–10, anyone can play! Watch for the 10-foot-tall Exo-Carrier, a "Pandora Utility Suit," used to study the wildlife, collect plant samples, and survive Pandora's terrain. The design of the exo-carrier suit is inspired by the Amplified Mobility Platform (AMP) suits of power armor from the "AVATAR" movie. You can interact with its pilot, who is strapped into the cockpit of the exo-carrier and controls its powerful movements. Check the Times Guide or MyDisneyExperiene app for appearance times. The park celebrated its 20th anniversary on April 22, 2018 (Earth Day). ![]() Reflecting pool at Flame Tree Barbecue by Jennifer Marx |
