PLAYING & RELAXING AT DISNEY'S PORT ORLEANS RESORT For Athletes: The Dixie Levee marina in Riverside rents pedal boats, rowboats, canopy boats, and bikes (including surrey bikes). Be sure to check the rental hours early on to avoid disappointment later. Both districts offer plenty of paths for walkers and joggers, too. For Fishers: An old-fashioned fishin’ hole on Ol’ Man Island in Riverside lets you hang a cane pole over a pond stocked with catfish, perch, bass, and bluegill (catch and release only). For more adventure, you can book a fishing excursion down the Sassagoula. For Children: Two playgrounds are near the two themed pools. For Gamers: South Quarter Games (French Quarter) has plenty of video games, as does the Medicine Show Arcade (Riverside). For Romantics: Enjoy a relaxing, private carriage ride for $45. For Shoppers: Jackson Square Gifts & Desires (French Quarter) and Fulton’s (Riverside) stock sundries, souvenirs, and snacks. For Swimmers: The French Quarter’s Doubloon Lagoon is a moderately sized themed pool with a huge dragon housing the water slide (you slide right down its tongue). A Mardi Gras band of crocodiles shoots water at unsuspecting swimmers. The French Quarter also has a wading pool for the young ones and a hot tub (spa) nearby. In Riverside, Ol’ Man Island offers a particularly nice “swimmin’ hole” with a large free-form pool, complete with a water slide, a waterfall cascading from a broken sluice, and a fun geyser. A hot tub and kids’ wading area are also here. Riverside also has five quieter pools spread throughout the resort. For Dog Owners: Dogs are accepted at Port Orleans Riverside resort for $50/night. There is a maximum of two dogs per guestroom. Each "dog friendly" room will have easy access to outdoor pet walkways for exercise and green spaces with pet relief areas. At check-in, guests will receive Pluto’s Welcome Kit including a mat, bowls, a pet ID tag, courtesy plastic disposable bags, puppy pads and dog walking maps. Also included: a Pluto “Do Not Disturb” door hanger indicating to hotel staff that a pet is in the room. Dogs are expected to be well behaved, leashed in public resort areas and properly vaccinated. This dog-friendly option will be available to Guests with reservations Oct. 15, 2017 through Oct. 15, 2018. |
GETTING AROUND FROM DISNEY'S PORT ORLEANS RESORT Direct buses to the major theme parks and Disney Springs stop regularly (see chart below for in-transit times). Buses usually pick up guests at French Quarter’s single bus stop first, then go on to the four stops in Riverside. To get to other resorts and destinations, take a bus to Epcot (daytime) or to Disney Springs (evening), and transfer to the appropriate bus. A boat also picks up guests from Riverside and the French Quarter and goes to and from Disney Springs Marketplace until 11:00 pm (weather permitting). Boats run about once an hour until 4:00 pm and every 15 minutes thereafter. A shuttle boat also operates between the French Quarter and Riverside on a frequent basis, especially at meal times. Parking throughout the resorts.
Approximate time you will spend in transit from resort to destination during normal operation. |

RE: Playing & Relaxing at Disney's Port Orleans Resort
We just stayed at the French Quarter this week. We walked over to Riverside and enjoyed a carriage ride. It is now $55 per ride.
