Recommended Shore Excursions in Stockholm, Sweden

Recommended Shore Excursions in Stockholm, Sweden

Of the 24 excursions offered by Disney Cruise Line, here are our recommended port adventures for first-time visitors to Stockholm:

Low Budget: Panoramic Stockholm (SH08, $54/$35 ages 3-9, 2-2.5 hours) is a bus tour that visits the city’s famous sights, making very few stops. While it’s easy enough to walk around Stockholm, the included ride from the port makes this tour worth taking. Stockholm and Vasa (SH01, $79/$45 ages 3-9, 3-3.5 hours) adds a visit to the Vasa  museum to see the fully preserved 17th-century ship. Gamla Stan with City Hall (SH25, $59/$39 ages 3-9, 3-3.5 hours) is a (mostly) walking tour of the old town and city hall.

Big Budget: Surprisingly, for a city that’s expensive to visit, most shore excursions are reasonably priced. At the high end, Disney offers private tours with driver/guides, in both half- and full-day versions ($999-$1999). After those, the biggest expense is RIB Boat Adventure, Grinda Island & Vasa (SH09, $699 ages 15 and up, 5-5.5 hours). You'll tour the islands by high speed inflatable boat and visit Grinda Island for lunch and some leisure time. Then it's off to Vasa Museum for a look at a very different kind of boating experience.

Active: Despite the Swedes’ love of the active life, most of the excursions focus on sightseeing, rather than activity. Cycling Around Royal Djurgården  (SH04, $169 ages 12 and up, 3-3.5 hours) includes about 90 minutes of cycling around the city park, plus lunch.

Armchair: Stockholm was really designed to be seen from the water and the Royal Palace & Waterways (SH10, $129/$109 ages 8-9) allows you to do that, taking you on a walking tour of the palace then you'll boat past the city’s main sights and into Lake Mälaren, offering superb views along the way.

Food & Beverage/Cultural: Ice Bar and Old Town (SH06, $129 ages 10 and up, 2-5-3 hours) is pricey, but offers a unique experience, visiting the world’s first permanent ice bar, where you don a warm fur poncho, enjoy an icy vodka-based drink, and hear about the ice bar’s history, before strolling through the old town. Learn about one of Stockholm’s most famous sons on The Nobel Tour (SH14, $189 ages 10 and up, 3-3.5 hours), visiting the museum named after him, among other Nobel-related sights. If you’re interested in history, this is a tour packed with information.
