Recommended Shore Excursions in Stavanger, Norway

Recommended Shore Excursions in Stavanger, Norway

Of the 21 excursions offered by Disney Cruise Line, here are our recommended port adventures for first-time visitors to Stavanger:

Low Budget: Walk Through Historic Stavanger (SV07, $49/$25 ages 3-9, 3-3.5 hours) covers much of the same ground as the walking tour on page 500. Better value is the Iron Age Farm and Stavanger Sightseeing (SV02, $69/$35 ages 3-9, 3.5-4 hours). For more options on this, see cultural tours.

Big Budget: Other than the usual private vehicle with driver tours, there's just one item in this category, and that’s Stavanger Helicopter Sightseeing (SV06, $379/ages 2 and up, 1-1.5 hours). Flight time is about 30 minutes, and you'll soar over the city, the fjords, and Pulpit Rock.

Nature: Lysefjord Cruise (SV01, $99/$49 ages 0-9, 3-3.5 hours) takes you on a three hour cruise into this stunningly beautiful fjord. Another option, which also involves a cruise is Time Travel on the Fjord (SV11, $155/$79 ages 0-9, 2.5-3 hours) takes you sailing on a restored 18th-century sloop. In addition to helping to sail the ship and enjoying the scenery, you'll learn how Norwegian immigrants sailed to the U.S. on such ships.

Active: Though a visit to Kongeparken Amusement Park (SV10, $119/$99 ages 3-9, 6.5-7 hours) may qualify as "active" to some, Hike to Pulpit Rock (SV05, $195 ages 12 and up, 8-8.5 hours) is the real deal. You'll gain about 1,000 feet in elevation on the trek to this dramatic viewpoint. Be sure to pack your hiking shoes!

Cultural: Explore some of Stavanger’s rich history with the Iron Age Farm and Stavanger Sightseeing (SV02, $69/$35 ages 3-9, 3.5-4 hours) which visits Ullandhaug, where the iron age farm dates back to the 4th century. Stavanger Sightseeing & Maritime Museum Featuring Exclusive Youth Activity (SV09, $64/$45 ages 5-9, 3.5-4 hours) combines a bus tour of the area with tour of the museum (adults) and a model boat-building activity for the kids. Norwegian Home Visit in Stavanger (SV12, $99 ages 10 and up, 2-2.5 hours) introduces you to a local family, their home, and gardens, where you'll learn about local life and snack on waffles and coffee, tea, or juice.
