Of the 22 excursions offered by Disney Cruise Line, here are our recommended port adventures for visitors to Saint John:

Low Budget: Big Pink Sightseeing Hop On Hop Off -Saint John (SN33, $49/$25 ages 3-9) is the best value, as you can use it all day long. Many other excursions are reasonably priced, but for bargains, the city transit system's bus tour is hard to beat at $20/$8 (see Getting Around, page 485). If you'd rather not explore on your own, Historic Saint John Walking Tour (SN38, $19/$14 ages 3-9) is very easy on the wallet for a two-hour tour.

Big Budget: If you can fill every seat on Saint John by Private Vehicle (SN21, SN23, SN25, $629-$1,199), the per-person cost isn’t that high. But... 4 hours is not enough for out-of-town destinations. Add extra hours and, perhaps, the optional tour guide. In for a penny... 5 hours is OK for a visit to St. Martins. Add 1.5 hours to the St. Martins visit for a drive on scenic Fundy Trail Parkway. 7 or more hours are needed for Hopewell Rocks (is there time for a lunch stop in Alma?).

Nature: This is a big category in Saint John. Our picks? Bay of Fundy Whale & Wildlife Watching (SN15, $159/$138 ages 0-9) is our top wildlife excursion, though you’ll be on the bus for 3 hours. Hopewell Rocks Tidal Discovery (SN18, $139/$115 ages 3-9) takes you to a really cool place, but you will be on the road for 5 hours. We’d happily choose Bay of Fundy Coastal Photography if the price was a tad lower.

Active: Hike, Bike & Paddle (SN09, $92 ages 10+) is the most energetic, and Rockwood Park is lovely. We‘d definitely paddle a kayak an hour for a lobster picnic, though at the price, but we love paddling, so a couple of more hours in the boat would be even nicer: Coastal Kayak & Lobster Cookout (SN31, $130 ages 10+).

Family: This was a major category when Disney Cruise Line first visited here, but now we're down to one choice, Irving Nature Park Hike & Children's Forest Maze (SN10, $74/62 ages 5-9). This is a lovely spot for a guided nature hike, with a scavenger hunt and a cedar hedge maze for added fun.

Foodie: Saint John for Foodies at the Old City Market  (SN07, $59 ages 21 and up) is a very tasty way to spend a couple of hours, in a very picturesque spot (see photo on page 484). We love maple syrup, so we're tempted by Maple Sugar Shack & Brunch (SN13, $86/$68 ages 3-9), but at the price, the pancakes-and-sausage brunch had better be really good.
