Of the 26 excursions offered by Disney Cruise Line, here are our recommended port adventures for visitors to Halifax:

Low Budget: Several tours offer value because they bundle the Hop On Hop Off bus (HA01, $49/$32 ages 3-9) with attraction admission, below list price. If you’d rather ride than walk (see the walking tour on previous page), consider these: Essential Halifax with Big Pink Sightseeing Hop On Hop Off (HA03, $62/$45 ages 3-9) adds  admission to two of our preferred in-town attractions. If the kids are playing Red Coat (Family, below), Red Coat Observer Companion (HA22, $39) gets the grownups onto the bus and into the Citadel for a low price. Peggy’s Cove & Hop On Hop Off (HA04, $74/$39 ages 3-9) is another fine value.

Big Budget: The 4-hour private vehicle tours carry the biggest price tags, but the price is hardly outrageous if you fill the vehicle. Still, you may want to pay for an extra hour or two if headed out of town to Peggy's Cove and/or Lunenburg. Choose from the three-passenger sedan (HA23, $629 entire vehicle) or five-passenger van (HA25, $779 entire vehicle). Otherwise, Bay of Fundy Tides & Wines is a decent way to spend $204 (see Armchair, below).

Nature/Active: We're not in love with the price tag, but we'd pick Peggy's Cove Coastal Hike & City Highlights (HA07, $156 ages 12+, 5.5-6 hrs) over a hike on McNabb Island ($89), which is just a stone's thrown from the ship. Bay of Fundy Tidal Bore Rafting ($229) has been available in the past, but is not currently listed. Maybe the tides won't be right?

Family: Red Coat for a Day — 78th Highlander & the Camp of Instruction (HA21, $138 ages 6+) is the most imaginative offering by far, and the included Peggy's Cove Hop On Hop Off bus ticket can turn this into a full day of exploration. Again, though not currently listed, Theodore Tugboat ($39/$29 ages 0-9) combines a harbor cruise and a boating safety lesson, on a tug modeled after a famous Canadian children’s TV star (Theodore Tug plied Halifax Harbour much as Thomas the Tank Engine chugged around the Island of Sodor)... what can be bad?

Armchair: Bay of Fundy Tides and Wines (HA11, $204 ages 21+) takes you through beautiful countryside, and the wine’s good, too. Halifax City and Harbor Duck Tour (HA40, $55/$29 ages 0-9) is far more fun than a plain old bus. You won’t stop anywhere, but you’ll see a lot.
