From the Airports

The Port of Galveston is 50 min. (42 mi./67.5 km.) south of Houston Hobby Airport (HOU) and 90 min. (72 mi./116 km.) south of George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH). Disney ground transfer, shuttle van, car service, taxi, and rental car are all options.

Disney Ground Transfer—Available only between George Bush International (IAH) and the cruise terminal. Just add it onto your cruise reservation. For more details, see page 63.

Shuttle Van—SuperShuttle (http://www.supershuttle.com, 800-258-3826) is the official ground transportation provider at the airports, but they don’t offer shared ride service to Galveston. A 7-person van can be reserved for $146 (HOU) or $176 (IAH) one-way. Island Breeze Shuttle (http://www.islandbreezeshuttle.com, 409-770-0100) offers shuttle service at $85 (HOU) or $105 (IAH) one-way—it's the same rate for either one or two passengers. 10% discount for military and seniors. Reservations are strongly recommended.

Sedan, Town Car, or Limo—SuperShuttle’s ExecuCar (http://www.supershuttle.com, 800-258-3826) offers 3-passenger town cars and 5-passenger luxury SUVs between the airports and Galveston. $126 or $146 (HOU), $166 or $186 (IAH), one-way. Galveston Limousine (http://www.galvestonlimousineservice.com, 800-640-4826) and Action Limousines (http://www.actionlimo.com, 800-0736-5466) both offer town cars, limos, luxury SUVs, and mini-bus charters. Contact them for rates.

Taking a Taxi—Taxis are available as you exit the airport terminals. Cabs are metered, and cost around $115 (HOU) or $185 (IAH) including time stuck in traffic and tip.

Rental Car—This is a challenging port for a one-way car rental. Many major agencies have offices at the airports, but of those agencies, only Enterprise has an office in Galveston, at 5919 Broadway St., over 4 miles from the pier. Pick-up/drop-off at the pier is not provided due to port regulations. Hertz has an agency on the mainland, but pickup/dropoff service is possible at several hotels. For other agencies, a round-trip rental will be required, with the added expense of long-term parking during the cruise (see below). At HOU you’ll find rental desks near baggage claim, and shuttles take you to the rental offices. At IAH, all agencies use a consolidated rental facility. A single fleet of shuttles serves all the agencies.

Driving directions from George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH): Exit the airport via John F. Kennedy Blvd., exit left for Beltway 8 East/US-59. Go 2 miles and exit onto US-59 South. Drive 14 miles and exit onto I-45 South. Go 43 miles and take Exit 1C Harborside Blvd. Turn left onto Harborside Blvd. and drive 4.75 miles to the cruise terminal.

Long-term cruise parking is supplied by the Port of Galveston and several independently run lots. In most cases you should drop off passengers and luggage at the terminal, and then park (shuttles are provided). All offer about $5 off if you pre-pay. For a 7-night cruise, the pre-paid rate at the Port of Galveston’s outdoor lots is $65. Limited, indoor parking is available when you arrive, first-come, first-served (pre-payment will be applied to the fee) (http://www.portgalvestonparking.com - 409-766-6100). Galveston Park N Cruise (http://galvestonparkncruise.com - 866-479-7275) is just across the street from the terminal (no shuttle required) and offers outdoor ($65 pre-paid) and indoor ($80 pre-paid) parking. Lighthouse Parking charges $60 pre-paid for outdoor parking, $60 for carport-sheltered spots (http://www.lighthouseparking.org - 877-915-4448.) If you’re staying overnight, many hotels offer free or low-cost cruise parking.
