If you fly into Orlando a day ahead of time but arrive too late in the day to make the trek to Port Canaveral, consider bunking near the airport the night before. We describe several hotels near the airport below—even one hotel that’s actually in the airport itself! Here are the details:

   Hyatt Regency Orlando

$152+0 mi./0 km.None

You can’t beat the convenience of staying right in the airport at this Hyatt, but you will pay for the privilege. This six-story hotel is built right into the main terminal at the Orlando International Airport, and offers 445 sound-proof, luxurious rooms at a whopping 360-505 sq. ft. each. While we haven’t had the opportunity to stay here, a walk around the hotel spaces gives the impression of a very upscale business hotel. Standard room amenities include two double “Grand Beds,” oversized work desk, armchairs, 37" flatscreen TV, balcony (not all rooms), iHome clock radio, refrigerator, coffeemaker, hair dryer, iron and ironing board, daily newspaper, voice mail, and free wireless Internet—there are no in-room safes. Hotel amenities include baggage retrieval/delivery around the airport and to DCL, room service, arcade, beauty salon, heated outdoor pool, sundeck with a runway view, 24-hour fitness room, and access to the airport shopping mall. The Hyatt has three restaurants: Hemisphere serves breakfast buffets and elegant dinners on the top two floors; McCoy’s Bar and Grill is a casual eatery serving American food and sushi, and the Lobby Bar offers drinks and appetizers. The hotel was built in 1992 and renovated in 2000.

   Orlando Airport Marriott

$164+2.5 mi./4 km. from the airportFree

We enjoyed a night at this Marriott before a Disney cruise and found it both convenient and affordable (we got a great rate here via Priceline.com—see sidebar on next page). The Marriott is a mere 5 minutes from the Orlando Airport via a 24-hour complimentary shuttle (call 407-851-9000 for pickup). The 485 renovated rooms at this 10-story business hotel offer two double beds with pillowtop mattresses, work desk with ergonomic chair, 42-in. Internet TV, two-line speakerphone, coffeemaker, hair dryer, iron and ironing board, in-room safe, daily newspaper, voice mail, and wireless high-speed Internet access (fee)—there are no balconies. Hotel amenities include room service, arcade, indoor/outdoor heated pool, hot tub, sauna, fitness center, tennis courts, and basketball court. Dining options include Crimson Cafe and Tavern, serving casual American food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Fidalgo Bay Café offers light fare at breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Splash pool bar serves drinks and sandwiches seasonally. The hotel was built in 1983 and renovated in 2007. See our detailed review of this hotel, complete with photos, at http://www.passporter.com/articles/orlandoairportmarriott.asp. We would stay here again without hesitation.
