Of the 23 excursions offered by Disney Cruise Line for Livorno (Florence & Pisa), here are our recommended port adventures:

Low Budget: Tours of nearby Pisa tend to be low-priced, but also tend to be half-day affairs. Unless you've already been there and/or are museum-focused, we wouldn't skimp on Florence by choosing Florence on Your Own (LV03, $92/$69 ages 3-9, 9.5-10 hours). We feel excursions that include a guided tour, like Discovering Florence (LV04, $132/$115 ages 3-9, 9.5-10 hours) will deliver better value, but note that the guided portions of these tours tend to run just 2-3 hours, with generous helpings of "on your own" time allowed for exploration, shopping, and lunch.

Big Budget: The cruise line's Private Vehicle offerings seem more useful here than in many other ports, especially if you have enough friends and/or family to fill a van or minibus. The optional services of a tour guide are also highly recommended. Since booking museum and other admission in advance is  sometimes essential... this is going to take some planning.

Armchair: Most tours require a fair amount of walking, but Easy Pisa (LV44, $72/$62 ages 3-9, 4-4.5 hours) combines a compact destination with the aid of a tourist tram to keep exertion to a minimum. For little extra, Pisa and Arno River (LV96, $79/$69 ages 0-9, 4.5-5 hours) includes the tram ride and adds a relaxing boat tour on the Arno River.

Sightseeing: Cinque Terre Scenic Boat Tour (LV08, $139/$115 ages 0-9, 9.5-10 hours) takes you back to DCL's traditional port in this region, La Spezia and it's "home" attraction, the villages of Cinque Terre. Though you'll travel by boat, there's a fair amount of walking around the beautiful hillside towns. Florence and Pisa (LV06, $159/$139 ages 3-9, 10-10.5 hours) steals some "on your own" time in Florence so you can remove Pisa from your bucket list. It's a long, exhausting day, but what the heck?

Cultural: Let's face it, every tour of Florence or Pisa is "cultural," but Giacomo Puccini and His Lake (LV43, $84/$74 ages 0-9, 3.5-4 hours) immerses you in the operatic composer's music as you tour his villa and cruise the neighboring lake. Though the cooking lesson isn't exactly advanced (fresh pasta and tomato sauce), Cooking Lesson at Castello del Trebbio (LV95, $295 ages 21 and up, 7.5-8 hours) has the bonus of a winery tour and an attractive location. However, you do spend a lot of time on the road.
