 A Taste of Cadiz & Jerez   [CD01]

Board an open-air tour bus for a drive through the city of Cadiz. You’ll make a stop at Plaze de Espana where you’ll discover the important and historical landmarks of this area. From here you’ll drive 30 miles to the town of Jerez de la Frontera, which has an ideal climate for growing the grapes that produce the three main sherries. In Jerez, you’ll set out on a guided tour of the birthplace of sherry. Highlights include the cathedral of Jerez and Constitution Monument. Your tour concludes with a visit to a sherry cellar (bodega) to see the sherry-making process and sample some sherry if you wish (non-alcoholic beverages available for those under age).

 Cadiz Walking Tour   [CD02]

This is the least expensive excursion, but still chock-full of everything Cadiz. Put on your comfortable shoes, meet your group, and set out on this nearly two-mile walking tour. You begin at the San Felipe Neri Oratory where the first Spanish Constitution was written, then continue through historic Cadiz to the Torre Tavira, the tallest of the ancient watchtowers (you can even climb to the top!). You’ll then walk to Plaza de Flores, where you’ll have about 90 minutes to shop and get a drink (voucher provided). After the break, you’ll walk to the Cadiz Cathedral (but not go inside), then to the Town Hall at the Plaza San Juan de Dios, before walking the 15 minutes back to the ship. Ages 10 and older recommended but not required.

 Seeing Seville   [CD06]

A tour bus shuttles you two hours north to one of the greatest cities in Spain: Seville. Your first stop is at the Alcazar palace and the massive Cathedral of Seville. While you’re here, be sure to see the Reales Alcazares and the Casa de Pilatos monuments. From the Cathedral, you’ll set out on a walking tour of the Santa Cruz Quarter, the old Jewish ghetto of Seville and now an upscale, picturesque area. One of the areas you’ll visit, Plaza Alfaro, has a balcony which was an inspiration for the famous “Wherefore art thou Romeo?” balcony scene in Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. After 45 minutes of free time, you’ll enjoy a traditional tapas lunch at a local restaurant. After lunch, your tour moves on to modern Seville and you’ll discover why Seville has become one of the largest cities in Spain. Notable highlights include Torre del Oro and La Giralda Tower. The Seville tour concludes as you pass by Plaza de Espana, a delightful square with monumental architecture (the square appears in a scene of “Star Wars: Episode II”), and then it’s another two-hour trip back to the ship.
