Dates: 10/18 - 10/27 (10 day trip)

Adventurers:

  • Jennifer Watson (author): 31 year old, writer and co-author of PassPorter Walt Disney World, on her umpteenth trip to Disney (from Ann Arbor, MI)
  • Dave Marx: 44 year old, writer and co-author of PassPorter Walt Disney World, on his 10th (or is it 11th?) trip to Disney (from Hackensack, NJ and Ann Arbor, MI)
  • Evans: 24 year old college student, online friend who we used to work with on AOL; Disney vacation veteran (joining us for the first three days)
  • Elizabeth: 21 year old college student, friend of Evans; never been to Disney before (also joining us for the first three days)
  • Kim Larner: 28 year old, Jennifer's younger sister, pregnant (in her fourth month). On her third trip to Walt Disney World but brand new to the Disney Cruise (from Okemos, Michigan). She is joining us for the cruise aboard the Disney Wonder.
  • Chad Larner, 28 year old, Jennifer's brother-in-law. Also on his third trip to Walt Disney World. (from Okemos, Michigan) He is also joining us on the cruise.

Transportation: Northwest Airlines (from Detroit) and Tiffany Town Car

Resort: BoardWalk Villas (one-bedroom villa) from 10/18-10/21, Disney Wonder from 10/21-10/24 (category 10 stateroom), and Wilderness Lodge (woodland view) from 10/24-10/27

Parks: We visited virtually all of the parks: Epcot, Magic Kingdom, Disney-MGM Studios, Animal Kingdom, Pleasure Island, and Blizzard Beach.

Restaurants/Eateries: At Walt Disney World: Tangierine Cafe, Cantina de San Angel, The Garden Grill, Palio, Hollywood Brown Derby, Wolfgang Puck Cafe. On the Disney Wonder: Beach Blanket Buffet, Triton's, Parrot Cay, Animator's Palette, Cookie's B-B-Q, Palo. Back at Walt Disney World: Whispering Canyon Cafe, Planet Hollywood, Hollywood & Vine, Epcot Food & Wine Festival, Yacht Club Galley, Lottawatta Lodge, and Artist Point

Other: E-Night at the Magic Kingdom (10/19), Cirque du Soleil, Disney Wonder cruise

We wrote much of this trip report while we were actually at Walt Disney World, so the writing is a little hurried at times and we usually weren't able to go into great detail. We intend to revisit each day to add in more tips, notes, thoughts, and recommendations. We have lots of information to share!

Pre-Trip Planning: Notes on how our trip came about and what we did to prepare.

Beforehand: Sunday, October 17: Pack and prepare research materials, and get to sleep early.

Our First Day: Monday, October 18: Arrive in Orlando, register at the BoardWalk Villas, meet up with Evans and Elizabeth, and walk over to Epcot to visit Millennium Village and see Tapestry of Nations and Reflections of Earth.

Our Second Day: Tuesday, October 19: Do more research at Epcot during the day, then take the monorail to Magic Kingdom for E-Night with Evans and Elizabeth.

Our Third Day: Wednesday, October 20: Spend the day with Evans and Elizabeth at Disney-MGM Studios, then go to Downtown Disney to see Cirque du Soleil, wander around Pleasure Island, then return to the room to meet Kim and Chad when they arrive from the airport.

Our Fourth Day: Thursday, October 21: Take the Disney Cruise Line bus to Port Canaveral and check-in for our 3-Day cruise aboard the Disney Wonder.

Our Fifth Day: Friday, October 22: Cruise to Nassau.

Our Sixth Day: Saturday, October 23: Cruise to Castaway Cay. Updated!

Our Seventh Day: Sunday, October 24: Disembark from the cruise, return to Walt Disney World, check-in to Wilderness Lodge, and do research. Updated!

Our Eighth Day: Monday, October 25: Research at Animal Kingdom and the Magic Kingdom. Updated!

Our Ninth Day: Tuesday, October 26: Research at Disney-MGM Studios and Epcot. Updated!

Our Tenth Day: Wednesday, October 27: Check-out and spend the day relaxing at Blizzard Beach before returning home to fly back to Detroit. Updated!
