The Day Before: Sunday, October 17, 1999

Besides a very long list of things to do before we left, the day went surprisingly smooth. No last-minute crisis or misplaced items. Jennifer's goal to get to sleep by 8:00 was the biggest problem. It was 8:30 by the time she could lie down (so far so good) but she never really got to sleep that night. Too much going on, too much to think about. Nonetheless, the rest helped even if sleep eluded her, and gave her enough energy for the first day.

Here is a partial list of the things we did the day before to prepare:

  • Pack suitcases
  • (Dave) Fly from Newark to Detroit/(Jennifer) Pick Dave up at the airport
  • Prepare the laptop and our research materials
  • Drop Jennifer's dog, Kippi, off at her boyfriend's (that's Kippi's boyfriend, Totem, who lives with a friend).
  • Send out the PassPockets that have been requested by folks in the last few days
  • Straighten up the house (better to come home to a clean house than a messy one)
  • Send an announcement to the PassPorter mailing list about our trip and updates to the Web site
  • Send e-mail to a few people who had written over the weekend
  • Go to bed early
