TIPS FOR UNIVERSAL CITYWALK Despite the fact that most of the stores and restaurants are now chains, many consider Universal CityWalk a must visit on a Southern California vacation. It’s fun, and best of all, it doesn’t charge admission. It’s a great place to catch an IMAX movie, enjoy a meal, or just people watch. To avoid the crowds, visit during the week and before 7:00 pm on Friday and Saturday. If you plan on seeing a movie at the Universal Studio Cinemas, be sure to keep your ticket stub, which will allow you to park for just $5. Many of the unique neon signs at CityWalk are historic pieces of art, on permanent loan from the Museum of Neon Art (MONA). For a great photo opportunity, pose inside the giant bobble-head doll box in the window of Sparky’s. |
NOTES FOR UNIVERSAL CITYWALK Parking is plentiful and costs $18 ($10 after 3pm) for an unlimited period of time. Preferred parking is available for $25 ($20 after 5pm). Valet parking is available; the cost is $2 for the first two hours and $30 for over 2 hours. Special CityLoft Club parking rates are offered Sunday through Thursday after 7pm: valet parking is just $3, but requires validation from Howl at the Moon. Make note of the “Shop, Dine & Play” program which gives you 2 hours of valet parking for just $2 if you arrive between 11:00 am and 3:00 pm Monday–Friday and receive validation. Also see page 144 for parking information and driving directions. Wheelchairs are available for CityWalk visitors at the Universal CityWalk valet areas for a rental fee of $7. Bring valid picture identification, which you’ll need to leave while you use the chair. For comparison, CityWalk is an edgy, urban canyon while Downtown Disney is laid-back and low-rise. For more information, call the CityWalk Information Line at 818-622-4455 or visit the CityWalk website. |
