The Disneyland Monorail is more of an attraction than a serious transportation system. The monorail makes two stops along its 2 1/2-mile-long route—one at Tomorrowland (inside the Disneyland Park) and one at Downtown Disney. See page 85 for more details.

TAKING A BUS

Hop one of three convenient bus systems to get around Anaheim and Southern California! The Anaheim Resort Transit (ART) system offers buses—all of which use alternative fuel—to many points within the Anaheim Resort district. There are 15 different routes throughout the area, stopping at the Disneyland Resort, the Anaheim Convention Center, and non-Disney hotels in the resort area (see page 52 for participating hotels). The buses are clean and quiet—and they’re accessible to the differently-abled. All-day passes are available from your hotel’s front desk for $5/day for adults (ages 9 and up), $2/day for kids ages 3–9 (kids under 3 are free). Three-day passes are $12/$3 kids, and five-day passes are $20/$5 kids. You can also get passes from the Anaheim Convention Center and the Anaheim Resort Tourist Information Center located at 1500 S. Harbor Blvd. across from the Disneyland Resort entrance. Note that passes bought from drivers are one-way only, so buy elsewhere. The trolleys begin operating one hour prior to park opening and end 30 minutes after park closing. Look for them every 10 minutes during the morning and evening, and every 30 minutes the rest of the day. Visit http://www.rideart.org or call 714-563-5287.

Going further afield? Southern California Gray Line/Coach USA (see Disneyland Resort Express on page 20) offers bus service from Disneyland to Knott’s Berry Farm and Universal Studios. You may even be able to catch the bus across from Disneyland in the Howard Johnson parking lot (see page 63), but you should confirm this when you call to make reservations in advance. Fares are $5/person for a roundtrip to Knott’s Berry Farm and $20/adult ($15/kids 3–11) for a roundtrip to Universal Studios.

A third option is the Metro bus system (http://www.metro.net). For example, you can get from Disneyland to Knott’s Berry Farm by walking to to the southeast corner of Harbor Blvd. and Ball Ave. (right across the street from Disneyland), catch the MTA Bus #543, then take the #38. The bus trip takes about 25 minutes and costs $4.00. Visit their web site for routes and details, or call 800-COMMUTE. Tip: You can use a handy trip planner to learn how to get from point A to point B in the Los Angeles area at http://socaltransport.org/tm_pub_start.php.

TAKING THE TRAIN

The Metro Rail is an underground subway system and a good option for travel to or from Universal Studios, Hollywood, and downtown Los Angeles attractions. Alas, while there is an Anaheim station on the subway line, it’s not convenient from the Disneyland Resort area. For information, call 800-266-6883 or visit http://www.metro.net. Going to San Diego? Amtrak offers daily trips to and from Anaheim and San Diego for a very reasonable price. See page 19 for more information.
