PassPorter Challenge
Welcome to the PassPorter Challenge, a 12-week weight loss challenge between PassPorter community members. If you would like to join a small group of friendly people
who are trying to loss weight, and are willing to post your food logs daily (or at least several times a week), you may request access to our private forum by
sending a private message to Jennifer Marx, Tara O'Hara, or WildForWD (you must join our message board community first, of course).
Please note that the original competition, held in 2005, is not currently going on. Instead, we continue to do 12-week "challenges" with one another, but without prizes
(unless you count bragging rights!) If you're interested in the details of the original competition, here they are:
Registration opened on Monday, April 4, 2005 at which point anyone interested in becoming a "challenger" with the right to win prizes and/or bragging rights was required to
register and provide
proof of their starting weight. For more information, check the links below.
If you are interested in participating in our challenge, please read the Rules and Guidelines below very carefully. Also note that due to popular vote,
discussions of the PassPorter Challenge will be moved to a private forum just for participants. Once you are registered, you will receive access to this
private forum within 24 hours -- it will be located at the very bottom of the list of forums on your next visit (or you can just click here). For this reason, please be sure to give
your EXACT message board display name when you register, exactly the way it appears online. Until you get your access, you may post about the Challenge
in The Kitchen and we will move it to the PassPorter Challenge forum later.
PassPorter Challenge - Rules and Guidelines
Overview: Compete against other members of the PassPorter community to take off the largest percentage of your body weight or greatest number of pounds in a 12-week period.
1. Eligibility: This challenge is open to any PassPorter message board member who is at least 18 years of age and is in good general health. (Family members who want to participate may do so provided they join the message board community and can get online at least once a week.)
2. Dates: The challenge begins on Monday, April 4 and ends 12 weeks later on Monday, June 27 at midnight Eastern Time.
3. Registering: Persons who wish to compete for prizes and bragging rights must register by weighing themselves on Monday, April 4 and submitting the weight via http://www.passporter.com/challenge.htm along with a digital photo of yourself standing on the scale (the readout must be visible in the photo Ð just stand on the scale, point the camera down at your feet, and take a photo of your feet on the scale). If you cannot take a digital photo, you may take a regular still photo (such as that taken with a disposable camera, available in most stores) or provide a copy of a weigh-in log from a diet program with the date and weight noted, and send it within one week to PassPorter Challenge, PO Box 3880, Ann Arbor, MI 48106. Participants may register after April 4 with the understanding that the competition ends on June 27 and they are less likely to win. If you are unable to provide this type of proof of your starting weight, you may still participate but you may not win prizes. Registered participants who provided validation of their starting weight shall be known as ÒChallengers,Ó and those who did not or cannot provide validation (and thus are ineligible to win the grand prize or runner-up prize) are known as ÒParticipants.Ó All weights are being reported to a third party who is not competing for prizes, and will be kept confidential.
4. Check-Ins: Challengers must check-in weekly by BOTH sending their weekly weight to http://www.passporter.com/challenge.htm (no digital photos necessary for weekly weights) and by posting about their progress (in as general or as specific terms as you wish) in PassPorter Challenge private forum on the PassPorter Message Board. Any Challenger who does not check-in weekly BOTH via the web page and on the message board will be disqualified (exception: you may miss one week due to illness or vacation).
5. Daily Logs: Challengers and Participants are strongly encouraged to keep a daily food and exercise log and share it with others in PassPorter Challenge forum. If there is a tie, we will look at how often you reported your daily food/exercise as a tie-breaker. If you are unable to get online daily to post your log, you may post less frequently but we encourage you to share the log of the days you did not post as well as the day you did. In other words, if you can only get online once a week, you may post a weekÕs worth of logs at that point.
6. Winners: The grand prize winner will be the registered participant (ÒChallengerÓ) who loses the greatest percentage of body weight between April 4 and June 27 (percentage of body weight will be calculated for you based on your reported weights). The runner-up will be the Challenger who loses the greatest number of pounds between April 4 and June 27. In the event the same Challenger loses the greatest percentage of body weight and the greatest number of pounds, the Challenger with the second highest percentage of body weight lost will be the runner-up. In order to be eligible to win, your ending weight must be submitted via http://www.passporter.com/challenge.htm by midnight on June 27, along with a digital photo verifying your weight. If you cannot provide a digital photo, you may send a still photo, weigh-in log from a diet program, or printed scale receipt within one week for verification. In the event of a tie, the number of daily check-in with food/exercise logs in the PassPorter Message Board will be the tie-breaker.
7. Prizes: The grand prize winner will receive $350.00, donated from MediaMarx, Inc. The runner-up will win $150.00, also donated from MediaMarx, Inc. Additional prizes may be offered by participants during the course of the competition, with the conditions for winning set by the participant donating the prize. If a Challenger or Participant wishes to donate a prize, s/he simply posts a ÒchallengeÓ in the PassPoter Challenge forum, specifying the challenge, conditions to win, and prize. For example: ÒI challenge everyone in the PassPorter Challenge (both Challengers and Participants) to exercise each day for the next two weeks. Report your daily exercise here and note how many minutes you exercised. The winner at the end of two weeks receives a $20 gift certificate for the Disney Store.Ó
8. Fine Print: All Challengers and Participants agree not to hold MediaMarx, Inc. liable for any special, incidental, or consequential damages, whether or not MediaMarx, Inc has been advised of the possibility of such damage. Participants understand that they should consult a doctor before beginning any weight loss or exercise program. Participants also agree to honestly report their weights and logs of foods eaten and exercise taken, because thatÕs the Right Thing To Do. Challengers and Participants understand that any false statement made will disqualify them from the competition.
